Western Railroad Discussion > Unusual move on the Iowa NorthernDate: 05/03/21 15:39 Unusual move on the Iowa Northern Author: rfdatalink Thanks to a call from a friend I was able to get some photos today Iowa Northern backing train load of precast concrete components to the Duane Arnold Energy facility northwest of Cedar Rapids IA today. The nuclear reactor at the Duane Arnold facility was decommissioned last fall. My educated guess is that these precast concrete pieces will be used for long term storage of the fuel on site. In 20 years of leaving nearby I've never caught a train so close to the facility although I know it has happened a few times.
