I have a cousin that works for the city if Ames, he told me the derailment hit and broke something and drained a water tower. 27 cars on the ground lpg leaking. What a mess.

It appears to me that there are two stories: one involves the derailed train and a small propane leak from a tank car, and the other involves a water main leak unrelated to the train incident.

The two incidents seem unrelated.  There no water or mud visible in any the derailment photos.

Derailment happened just short of the Skunk River Bridge. Here is the spot of the derailment;

The real heavy rains fell in southern Iowa. Ames area has less than 2" in the last week.

It blocked all of downtown for a few hours, so it had to be one of the big ones.  it was an MPRNP and they usually run big.

Eldon is a Rock Island town SE of Ottumwa about 10 miles, SE of Ames 110 miles.
