Date: 08/01/21 15:13 Re: Truckee Author: broken_link I can't say for sure, but due to the Dixie Fire, the MNPFR and INPOA which usually go west via the Canyon were detouring over Donner, as well as loaded westbound grain and coal trains.
I-5 reroutes were there as well, initially northbound (mostly empties) running east on Donner, and then loaded southbound trains running west on Donner as well once the Canyon was shut down. I don't know how much was rerouted via the LA&SL, but I'd guess that Donner was seeing perhaps upwards of 8 extra trains per day, plus helper moves between Truckee and Norden. That would amount to a 50%-75% increase in traffic on any given day not including the helpers.
