Not an Everyday Sight!
Author: twjurgens

Got a tip from a friend yesterday that two "older" CSXT engines were leading a coal empty near Creston, IA yesterday.  He and some others had heard about it and driven there to follow the train to Lincoln, NE.

This is definitely something that would get this geezer out of the house!  I stayed in touch with them throughout the after noon but didn't go out until the train neared Lincoln.  These two shots are at the 84th Street crossing on Lincoln's northeast corner.

CSX SD40-2 8400 and SD50-3 8536 were leading E-CXCBTM.  I'm told that 8400 was built in 1969 and started life as WM 7449.

Wonder how many crew members weren't even working yet when these locomotives ruled the roost? Good to see them out and about.

Nice !  Now that's a True Heritage Unit !  Here it was back on 5/1/83 at Grafton,WV.  Glad to see it can still get out there on the point. Not bad for a unit that started out over 52 years ago !

I don't understand this.  "twjurgens" stated that 8400 was originally WM 7449 (i.e., "I'm told that 8400 was built in 1969 and started life as WM 7449") but "pweklocal" posts a photo of WM 7549.

Because Chessie renumbered the WM units.  7449 became 7549.

Neat shots Tom.  Really nice to see the standard cab units nowadays.

Surprised they didn’t swap them out at Galesburg and send them back to CSX
