Western Railroad Discussion > Hi-Viz and the Union reactionDate: 01/13/22 10:38 Hi-Viz and the Union reaction Author: callum_out BLE/SMART has announced that they are polling the employees and if 2/3 of the BNSF employees under Union agreements
approve they are going to walk over the new BNSF attendance policy. That would bring up the interesting standoff between the pro-Union Biden administration and the government role in the implementation of the Taft-Hartley action. Is popcorn on sale somewherw? money we will save by shutting down all the railroads for a day or two. Date: 01/13/22 10:56 Re: Hi-Viz and the Union reaction Author: FECgp40 Does anyone know the basic details of the new BNSF attendance policy?

It's a point system that limits how often and when unionized employees can mark off. Date: 01/13/22 11:51 Re: Hi-Viz and the Union reaction Author: callum_out You gete 30 bad points and missing a call is like 15 points, so you accrue them and doesn't seem like an easy way to erase them.
So you hit 30, you get whatever punishment that entails and then your limit drops to 15 and starts over. You hit 15 and reset to 15 and you make that you're gone. Out Date: 01/13/22 11:54 Re: Hi-Viz and the Union reaction Author: Pacific5th FECgp40 Wrote:

But basically unscheduled employees are absolutely screwed. If you have no days off you used to be able to take 5 weekdays and 2 weekends off each month. If you did that you would be fired in 5 month or so under this new system. Just taking every other Wednesday off starting next month would have you fired by next March. This news/story is moving so fast at the moment it's hard to hang on. Appears that both major US Rail Labor Unions have now made their intentions public knowledge.
Mr. MRL ~ hang onto your butts.... Date: 01/13/22 13:09 Re: Hi-Viz and the Union reaction Author: callum_out And hanging onto your butts, the two unions have agreed on anything since they quit using firemen!

------------------------------------------------------- > Does anyone know the basic details of the new BNSF > attendance policy? > > Posted from Android Now don't quote me on this as I just heard it second hand from a union person and I have not calculated it myself, but he said that this new attendance policy only allows for 27 layoff days a year for a person in "Unassigned Service" (that is, operating personnel who are typically on call 24/7 and do not have assigned rest days (ie extraboards, road pool crews, etc - ie, most union railroad operating personnel)). Now, maybe this was figured using an assumption that one would layoff only on HID (High Impact Days, defined by the carrier as weekend days (including Fridays), holidays, or any day that has a history of more people laying off (such as the Superbowl, Halloween, etc)). HID days will deduct more points off of your status than ordinary weekdays (Monday - Thursdays). This would compare to the average person who gets approximately 104 days off a year (crudely computed as 56 weeks X 2). Date: 01/13/22 13:18 Re: Hi-Viz and the Union reaction Author: callum_out To wyeth's crude calculation, you might as well throw in holidays for the average person because your unassigned
rail sure doesn't get them off. Out Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/13/22 14:33 by callum_out. Date: 01/13/22 14:28 Re: Hi-Viz and the Union reaction Author: MILW-E78 We could all take some of our PLD or float VAC days off so we don't get too many points. Oh wait, that request is denied as well, as every terminal has a manpower shortage. We can't even take our paid time off when we want to, so just plan on being available 365 days a year. It's a joke anymore
