America’s Railroads Are in Trouble–With or Without a Strike | Time

Something to think about after a strike.  Railroads have dug a hole for their customers with PSR, what are they going to do to improve their service afterwards?

Why would they do anything? The railroads don't care and nobody can make them care.

Why do they need to improve service? What's the customers (better) alternative?

Mr. MRL ~ I'm just sayin'

Exactly. The railroads really don’t want to be in the railroad business, but rather bleed the industry dry and dismantle it. Who cares?
The STB? Well they seem to have woken from a 30 year slumber of “If the railroad don’t wanna do it, f&@k it, truck it.” But they seem to have the regulatory bite of a goldfish. God bless those folks for at least shaking their fingers at the Class One’s but that’s about it.
The FRA? Are you kidding? They ride the fence of being cheerleaders for the industry, and chihuahuas for congress when the NTSB gets told to do something about something (see PTC). Lots of bark and bluster and 20 dollar fines for the Carriers that they pay and go on ignoring the regulations.

The shippers? Those poor bastards have been told to eat cake by the Class Ones for so long there ain’t enough milk in this nation to wash it down. RR’s have the bigger bag men.

Labor unions? Have been demonized and bent over since the Government went into the union busting business in 1980. Fighting a uphill battle but are still swinging…

Agreement labor? Just trying to survive. This job has just become plain shitty. No way else to put it.

I wish George Carlin were here to comment on what’s going on, God that would be great.

Regards
