10 Miles West of Gallup per the Radio Chatter. Both Mains are affected. MoW has Track and Time until 22:00 per the Gallup Cam/RadioFeed.

Thanks for the update. I was around Holbrook and heard DS9 telling some trains they weren't going to be moving, and that crew vans were being ordered.

The old Southern Pacific/Rock Island line from Tucumcari south to beyond Santa Rosa had occasional collapses of limestone caverens.
Roadmasters and Division Engineers knew to watch for locations where water would run into the ground and when they saw that happen they knew that they had to promptly dig alternate drainage channels and try to keep the hole from enlarging.
Is the Gallup problem a collapsed caveran?  Are some of those same formations that far west?
The media uses the term "sinkhole" for any hole in the ground.

Does not sound like they will turn them.  Last update I got from my contact at Gallup, "#3 will hold at Gallup until they are given the go ahead to proceed."

I was just informed from my contact in Gallup, will be holding #3 at Gallup and Departing around 3:00 MDT.

From the BNSF Service Page:
https://www.bnsf.com/news-media/customer-notifications/notification.page?notId=initial-report-sinkhole-near-defiance-nm-gallup-subdivision

On Friday, October 7th, 2022 at 9:51 a.m. CDT, we received a preliminary report of a track outage due to a sinkhole near Defiance, NM which has affected both main tracks. Defiance, NM is approximately 10 miles southwest of Gallup, NM. BNSF field personnel are responding to assess the derailment site. Main track one is anticipated to return to service on October 8th, 2022 at 3:00 a.m. CDT, and main track two on October 8th, 2022 at 7:00 a.m. CDT.

Sorry for the small print. Looks to be lots of stopped traffic and lots of Track & Time between Defiance and Lupton at the moment.

There's a U8 train shown with odd symbols which would be a critical expedited move, might be rip-rap
or the like.

Looks like Thursday's hottest eb Zs made it thru, the Z-NBYWSP1, Z-LACNYC1, Z-LACNWH3, Z-SBDALT4 and Z-SBDWSP4.  Tough run for the Z-LACALT5, it’s been passed up by the Z-LACWSP7, now this sinkhole stopping it.  When they open up, should be a good run for the Z-WSPNBY2, nothing ahead of it but Amtrak, but there may be a lot of hot eb Zs leapfrogging around lower priority traffic to temporarily take up both mains.

I wonder which train derailed? I see the tracks run along and cross the Puerco River between Defiance and Lupton.

did not hear anything about a derailment.   Only that work crews have track and time on main one and main 2 between MP 167.0 and MP 168.0, till 3am MDT.   This is reported to be for a sink hole underneath the tracks.  No word on who discovered it.    They are expecting to have the track passable at 3 am.

For those of u who just tuned in.....this is on the BNSF trascon between Diefiance and Lupton.....Just west of Gallup NM.
