Western Railroad Discussion > More Adventures Along the Oregon TrunkDate: 11/22/22 10:46 More Adventures Along the Oregon Trunk Author: billmeeker I spent some time with BNSF's Bend Local last week, following it north out of Bend toward Madras, and then back south. It was a full-day's work for train crew and photographer.
1. The local, behind geeps 2634 and 2641, heads north as it approaches the Crooked River near Terrebonne, OR. 2. The local has ducked in the clear at Opal as BNSF 7119 south motors across the Crooked River bridge. Mount Hood, a stratovolcano and Oregon's highest mountain, looms in the distance. 3. Later in the afternoon, the local has finished its chores in Madras and heads back south through Terrebonne. Smith Rock State Park occupies the background. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 11/22/22 10:50 Re: More Adventures Along the Oregon Trunk Author: billmeeker 4. The local switches Prineville Jct., connection with the City of Prineville Railway.
5. The local switches at an industrial park at Redmond. 6. Nearing the end of its run, the local passes through Deschutes on its way back to Bend. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 11/22/22 10:53 Re: More Adventures Along the Oregon Trunk Author: icancmp193 Oregon Trunk coverage always appreciated!
TJY Date: 11/22/22 10:55 Re: More Adventures Along the Oregon Trunk Author: billmeeker 7. At Deschutes, BNSF 7622 north pulls up the north switch after the local clears. CN 5632 is an SD75I, an uncommon model for EMD. Only about 200 were built, mostly for CN.
8. The next day, I caught a vehicle rack repo move headed north near Terrebonne, with Smith Rock State Park in the background. Hope you have been enjoying my adventures along the Oregon Trunk. ![]() ![]() Date: 11/22/22 11:14 Re: More Adventures Along the Oregon Trunk Author: Graybeard1942 Thanks, Bill.....

mountain goat. What work did the local have at Madras? Out Date: 11/22/22 18:29 Re: More Adventures Along the Oregon Trunk Author: midwest Re: Does the UP still use its trackage rights to Bend?
While UP has not utilized their trackage rights in some time, they still have access to customers their Bend local once served via haulage over BNSF. UP interchanges cars with BNSF at Klamath Falls that this BNSF Bend roadswitcher now spots/pulls for UP. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 11/22/22 18:32 by midwest. Date: 11/23/22 12:00 Re: More Adventures Along the Oregon Trunk Author: callum_out Thanks for that, been a while since I've been thru there and didn't remember much to switch.
