Western Railroad Discussion > Rotary du Jour (Again?! Yep)Date: 03/15/23 18:54 Rotary du Jour (Again?! Yep) Author: BoilingMan True to plan, the UP is running the Rotary often in Clean Up Duty. Today's mission was (IS: They're still out there as I post this) Truckee-Shed 10-Truckee. We had a nice sunny break between storms today, so I had a chance to fly as well as get some ground shots. I flew at Norden, walked at Soda Springs. I'll post my Cutting Room Floor shots later tonight or in the morning. Here are my quick picks to post first:
SR Photos 1-3. Rolling through Norden. Photo 4. Approaching Soda Springs Photos 5&6. Fisheye Fun. The thing about seeing the Rotary so often is that I get to experiment a bit. I mean, hey, they'll probably run again tomorrow, right? ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 03/15/23 18:55 Re: Rotary du Jour (Again?! Yep) Author: BoilingMan Date: 03/15/23 19:14 Re: Rotary du Jour (Again?! Really enjoy, Boilingman, your contributions here I'd offer a wee tipple of single malt if I could. d Date: 03/16/23 06:27 Re: Rotary du Jour (Again?! Yep) Author: Gonut1 Fun Photos! Thanks.
Funny thing about snow, you bust your butt to move it out of the way and it seems after all that work a few days later Mother Nature comes along and melts it all leaving only small reminders of all that work you did! Yes, Norden today is but a shadow of it's former glory. It was originally a very busy place with a turntable, train order office, cookhouse, company housing, even a depot for skiers in the winter. Today there's nobody there. The sheds primarily protect the crossover switches. Short sections of the 1 Track shed and the turntable lead still stand and are used mostly by the MoW Dept to stash equipment when they're working in the area. SR I took the accompanying photo in the winter of 1984-85. Most of the Norden complex still existed at the time. ![]() ![]() Date: 03/16/23 09:11 Re: Rotary du Jour (Again?!
