What's in a freightcar?
Author: funnelfan

Not sure about the rest of you, but I try to figure out what commodities are traveling on the trains here in the PNW and which industries the cars are coming from or going to. For instance I've noticed the UP local based in Ontario, OR brings back strings of boxcars from some place north of Ontario. Did a little research and found out the Sceneca Foods plant in Payette, ID ships out cans of variety of beans including refried beans in boxcars. Today the Ontario local left these two boxcars and three others on the South Pass Extension so the LCA-44 local out of Nampa, ID could take the cars and others to Nampa to be added to through trains. I've noticed that insulated cars from the midwest often come here to be loaded for the backhaul.

Beside the commodities, the boxcars sure pick up the graffiti.
