Western Railroad Discussion > UP Passenger Special In and Out of SoCal TodayDate: 03/24/23 15:00 UP Passenger Special In and Out of SoCal Today Author: TheNavigator The UP passenger special ran from Tucson to Las Vegas today via West Colton.
It was by the Tucson camera at 2:19 this morning, and arrived at WC at about 10:30. After de-training whoever was on board at Cedar Ave., it made a reverse move back to Rancho before turning north for a trip up Cajon Pass on UP's Mojave Sub and BNSF’s Cajon Sub, where I opted to catch it for a one-and-done shot just west of Summit. Behind 4404 are cars 207, Columbia River, Pony Express, Kenefick, 5769, Portola, Omaha, Walter Dean, City of Denver, and Fox River. As always, thanks for the timely heads up today! Thanks for looking, GK Date: 03/24/23 15:04 Re: UP Passenger Special In and Out of SoCal Today Author: callum_out How on earth could a UP train run from Tucson to Las Vegas in one day?

Larry Date: 03/24/23 16:29 Re: UP Passenger Special In and Out of SoCal Today Author: tomstp How can it run that??? It has big shots on board that could not give a darn about running like a freight. Bet it never went in a passing track.

Bet it never went in a passing track. Exactly right! It averaged 57mph from Tucson to Banning, a distance of 417 miles (+/-). Don't know if it changed crews in Yuma or not. Has the extra forward facing camera and the wifi link to the cars installed. It's also probably the cleanest SD70M on the railroad.
