Western Railroad Discussion > Snow in the background on CajonDate: 02/29/24 18:10 Snow in the background on Cajon Author: oyw A couple of Saturdays ago, February 10th to be exact, a friend and I spent the morning at MP58X trying to capture a few trains beneath the snowy San Gabriel Mountains. It was fairly slow but we did get a little bit of action.
1) Our first train was BNSF 5726 with an empty vehicle train out of San Bernardino. 2) BNSF 7536 was leading a Z-train with Grinstein 9809 third out. This same train was featured here by MacBeau back on February 19. 3) The last eastbound train was a nice surprise, BNSF SD70ACe 8506 followed by Heritage I 1050 painted with unique yellow lettering. 5) One last “going away” pic of the rear DP’s on a westbound UP manifest with 8456 faced out. So far this winter, this is about the lowest the snow has gotten. This coming weekend snow is predicted to possibly be as low as 3000 feet so we’ll just have to wait and see if the weatherman is accurate. Thanks for looking, OYW ![]() ![]() Date: 02/29/24 18:14 Re: Snow in the background on Cajon Author: SCKP187 Pretty--never have seen many photos with so much snow in that area. Nice looking leaders in #1 & #3 too.

the snow covered mountains around the l.a. basin are a great sight.......... 66 Date: 03/01/24 06:49 Re: Snow in the background on Cajon Author: PasadenaSub Great photos as always, Bob. And you kept your lucky streak going with another BNSF SD70ACe leading.
Rich Date: 03/01/24 07:50 Re: Snow in the background on Cajon Author: tgcostello Thanks for sharing these terrific photos, Bob. Congrats on catching the 1050. Many fans like the H1 scheme best of all the BNSF configurations. I would vote that the "H1" 1050 with the yellow "H2" herald is the best looking of them all.

It will also warm up and melt quickly when the sun comes out. mapboy Date: 03/01/24 08:21 Re: Snow in the background on Cajon Author: 3rdswitch Real nice.
