Snow in the background on Cajon
Author: oyw

A couple of Saturdays ago, February 10th to be exact, a friend and I spent the morning at MP58X trying to capture a few trains beneath the snowy San Gabriel Mountains. It was fairly slow but we did get a little bit of action.

1) Our first train was BNSF 5726 with an empty vehicle train out of San Bernardino.

2) BNSF 7536 was leading a Z-train with Grinstein 9809 third out. This same train was featured here by MacBeau back on February 19.

3) The last eastbound train was a nice surprise, BNSF SD70ACe 8506 followed by Heritage I 1050 painted with unique yellow lettering.

4) Here is the 1050.

5) One last “going away” pic of the rear DP’s on a westbound UP manifest with 8456 faced out.

So far this winter, this is about the lowest the snow has gotten. This coming weekend snow is predicted to possibly be as low as 3000 feet so we’ll just have to wait and see if the weatherman is accurate.

Thanks for looking,

OYW

Pretty--never have seen many photos with so much snow in that area.  Nice looking leaders in #1 & #3 too.

You sure found it in better light and a better location than I did! Nice work on all of them.

Great photos as always, Bob.  And you kept your lucky streak going with another BNSF SD70ACe leading.

Thanks for sharing these terrific photos, Bob.  Congrats on catching the 1050.  Many fans like the H1 scheme best of all the BNSF configurations.  I would vote that the "H1" 1050 with the yellow "H2" herald is the best looking of them all.

These shots are at 3,600' elevation, so if snow level gets down to 3,000' (usually towards the tail end of a storm), this scene will get snow.  It will also warm up and melt quickly when the sun comes out.
