I think it is toast
Author: robj

(8622)  trailing engine and no mention of crew so assuming all are safe?  Bob Jordan

Info and photos from  Extra Alarm Assoc of Twin Cities

Saint Paul has a diesel locomotive on fire on the railroad tracks at Warner Road near Childs road. I believe E24, L24, Sqd 1, HM1 and Ch 2 responded originally. Ladder 24 asked for two more engines to relay lay lines. Engine 3 and Engine 8 responded. Chief 2 requested the balance and got E6, L6, M10, Sqd 3 and Car 5. Engine 3 reports they are out of water. -Saint Paul Fire Department Photo

-1- Ladder 24 is raising its aerial for a possible aerial stream. Railroad employees have told firefighters that they should not fight this fire with water.

2- Crews are awaiting Engine 6 arrival to do relay pumping. Engine 24 will be moving out to set up a relay to get hose to the fire. Railroad employees are attempting to remove the first locomotive away from the second locomotive.

3-- This fire is on FG-5. Chief 2 is releasing Ladder 6 at this time. Engine 6 is hooking at the hydrant and will be pumingr to Engine 24 and then to Engine 8 in relay.

-4- Crews report the railroad crews need about 10 more minutes to separate the two locomotives. The railroad workers advice firefighters that once separated they can use foam on the locomotive burning. Engine 6 is pumping into Engine 24 which is relaying to Engine 8 and then to Engine 3 The locomotives are separated. Water is coming. -Saint Paul Fire Department Photo

-6- Squad 3 was able to open some doors on thee locomotive, Squad 3 requests more pressure on their line from Engine 8.

7- Crews report it looks like they have the fire out. They are going to try and open more panels on the locomotive checking for hot spots. Crews are temporarily shutting down supply lines to let some backed-up traffic through.

-8- Chief 2 has requested Squad 1 to set up a detox area for firefighters involved in this operation. Engine 6 is opening their supply line back up for final wash-downs. Engine 3 reported they were out of foam. Crews continued to find hot spots.

Kind of ironic looking at the BBQ there, Considering it's still pretty cold at night back there in St. Paul?
Very brave crew trying to un-couple the other unit from this by the way.

Information overload on the ladder, squad, pumpers. etc as it is all unknown to me but I can sure see the toaster burned the bread.
