Amtrak train 8 of the 17, departed Williston 20 hrs and 26 min late. Amtrak train 7 of the 18, departed Williston 4 hrs and 2 min. No buses were available to handle passengers from train 8 eastward, so they sat it out. Date: 10/19/03 17:22 Re: BNSF derailment east of Williston ND Author: P mundo Wrote:

Ouch. Hope no one was in a big hurry. We lost about eight hours in the detour maneuver.
Date: 10/19/03 22:19 Re: BNSF derailment east of Williston ND Author: GearHeadGrrrl Given that BNSF was predicting something like a 24 hour delay, I'm surprised Amtrak didn't try that detour. With so many BNSF trains held, I suspect qualified crews would have been available. It would have been possible to turn 8 at Williston and 7 at Minot, and being a weekend school buses would have been available if all else failed. However, with 7 not getting in to Minot until 9 am or so there would still be at least a 14 hour delay for 8.
