Pueblo Railway Foundation open for business
Author: grande473

A new railway historical group The Pueblo Railway Foundation has been formed to further the cause of railway preservation and history in the Southern Colorado area. The group took possession of most of the equipment of the Pueblo Locomotive and Rail Historical Society, including AT&SF Northern 2912. Many of the members of the PLRHS came over as well although the earlier group will remain.
Plans for the 2912 will include movement to an outside display track at which time the locomotive will be rerodded, the pumps reinstalled and new boiler jacket added. There are no plans to restore the locomotive to operating condition. Insurance and regulation made operation unlikely
The group also owns three GP-7s, formerly Colorado & Wyoming 102,103 and 104. They will be used for train rides on Pueblo Union Depot and adjoining trackage as well as possible lease outs.
A railroad festival called ``Depot Daze'' will be held Oct. 2-3.

Now if the new group can figure out how to space out some of the equipment so reasonable photos can be had of significant items, like the DOT 001, those C&W units, etc. I know the space is at a premium, but I would hate to spend the time and gas to come home, and find nothing really photographable.

Your suggestions have been heard. We plan to lay a connecting track from the ladder into Pueblo Union Depot to the Southern Colorado Heritage Center, the old Denver & Rio Grande freight depot. These tracks were made inaccessable when the BNSF took out the diamond from the D&RGW yard. Since putting the diamond back in was out of the question, the connecting track was the best option. Jerry Danderand, one of the principals of the group, owns land near the Heritage Center so that won't be a problem. We will also use the abandoned tracks north of the depot as well.
Currently track two is clear, except for C&W 102. Plans are to clear track five, where 2912 is now, making it our main line. Attorney Jim Koncilja, co-owner of Pueblo Union Depot, is in the group, which is a great help. The 2912 will be put on track 8, the stub track closest to the street. This is where the Missouri Pacific and Rio Grande cabooses now are as well as Amtrak 5410 and the American Steel Founderies car.
We also are looking at retracking the gap in track six. This track and track seven, the two tracks closest to the BNSF main line, are the only tracks that still run to the spot near the eastbound connection to the BNSF main line. All other tracks were destoryed just beyond the Union Ave. Vaiduct. The status of these tracks is unclear. Also, we would want to have some space between our operation and the BNSF main line.
