MPEX MP2000C 6201 to PHL
Author: cozephyr

One of the rare (at least around Colorado) MP2000C switchers was at BNSF's Denver Diesel Shop, Denver, CO, on Jan. 24, 2005. Motive Power (MPEX) 6201, serial number 29842, was built May 1998. Unit will depart on the Denver to Barstow, CA, train. Tenative lineup for H DENBAR1 25; BNSF 4802, 892 and dead in transit (DIT) MPEX 6201. It's headed for Pacific Harbor Line at Watson, CA.

Rookie question: Could they MU the train if they put the switcher in the front and also dead in transit? Or would it have to be running? Because what I'm thinking is, if you're moving a dead locomotive, in this case a switcher, you might not want to use it as a drawbar for a long, heavy train. So you would put it up front.

I don't think that makes a difference. Think of it this way, how would it be different then the first railcar in the consist? I doubt a switcher would be built with couplers etc less then a normal railcar.
