Nice little T boiler Shay, one of the oldest ones still around. Was on display for years in Camino near Placerville.

Glad to see she's under a roof - I hope it's long enough to shelter the car and load, too. Can't tell from the picture. BTW, isn't "Lima Shay" redundant?????? Author: fbe If it is a Shay it is from Lima, no where else.
Nice to see it has been saved and is better protected. Date: 04/05/05 19:53 Re: Isn't that redundant? Author: up833 There was also the Willamette Shay..built by Willamette Iron and Steel.

They were Willamette's not Shay's. J. Date: 04/05/05 21:09 Re: Lima Shay Author: Nitehostler sd75mac Wrote:

Michigan-Cal Lbr. Co., not the standard gauge Camino, Placerville & Lake Tahoe. CP & LT carried Mich-Cals finished goods down to the SP connection in Placerville. And as an aside, they used a pair of Shays in steam days, the newer one of which is on display in Travel Town. Tom PS Lest I be taken to task for this small error, I should add that this little Shay was apparently once steamed by Hal Wilmunder for his CC & N tourist line in Camino. This was well after her career for Mich-Cal. I was told this by a very reliable source who is still with us. |
