At 1:30P, the power was wyed (for some odd reason) so UP8337 is now leading east with UP8342 trailing. The UP crew left both nose doors wide open during this move so all of my roster photos are very ugly! Rain started coming down at 2PM and is getting heavier. KOAG1-04 stacker departed 10 minutes after I left the tracks to go bacl to work. Alex Ramos reports it was flying through Emeryville on the mainline at full trackspeed in the rain. Through Stege (Richmond) at 2:51P... ~~~ (original post 12:03 05/04/05) All yellow stripes and clean as can be. A team of local East Bay railfans accompanied me last night to see them arrive (late) into West Oakland via Jack London Square at around 10:30P. Today's eastbound stack train is the KOAG1-04 ready to depart the Desert Yard sometime around 1P. In the past, this train has left town early... Herez a few blurry pacing shots taken runing along side the inbound IG2OA-29 last night through "Da Square" aka Jack London Square. Well, the best I could do with the super crapola pothole filled street that the city of Oakland REALLY needs to fix. As I'm sure those of you who have seen these puppies know by now, these new five chimes on the SD70ACe are SUPER deafening so even trying to hold still and not squirm for these shots took a lot of ear drum abuse! Really interested to see how Mikey's shots from the "rear photographer platform" came out... -Ryan aka "espeeboy" on the ex-WP Oakland Sub MP11.2 Date: 05/04/05 12:04 Re: New SD70ACe's UP8342/UP8337 in Oakland Last Night Author: espeeboy Date: 05/04/05 12:11 Re: New SD70ACe's UP8342/UP8337 in Oakland Last Night Author: espeeboy Train had made an unexpected 30 second stop right in front of the OKJ Amtrak station, of course only to tease me Ramos-Man and Mikey. Otherwise they didn't ever come to a complete stop until well into the middle of the intermodal packer tracks at West Oakland - in perfect yard night light!!!

Hopefully when they depart in about an hour, I can get some photos of the pair. Wish me luck.

Thanx always for the headsup! I was able to bag both of them today as well! Nice pix!! I wonder if that CP8800 would be better as it might provide some decent image stabilization for those cool JLS pacing shots.. Cheers, Harry Date: 05/04/05 16:01 Re: New SD70ACe's UP8342/UP8337 in Oakland Last Night Author: TCnR Those new horns have been said to be 'sweet', maybe if you have cotton in your belly button and your head... They seem to be ridiculous even a block away, don't quite understand what that's all about.
...and they're backwards. Read what the guy says, think about it, they're backwards. Maybe designed to be backwards, but they're backwards to make it louder when you're a block away. Thanks for posting the photo. Geez, the last time I saw an 8337, it was the snoot nosed SP8337 in a locomotive deadline!!!)

Hey now Mikey-Man, don't discriminate against my handicapped midget tripod (a bipod?) Date: 05/04/05 22:34 Re: New SD70ACe's UP8342/UP8337 in Oakland Today Author: espeeboy thanks to the wonders of physics and a hard braking by the engineer, my prayers on shutting that dumb nose door on the 8342 were ALMOST answered! Yeah, almost but as soon as this thing moved the other direction and braked again - yup back to WIDE OPEN!
