3985 heading for Dunsmuir
Author: photobob

I just got back from following 3985 up the Sacramento River Canyon from Lakehead to Soda Creek. In the first two shots it is shown crossing a low Lake Shasta near Lakehead.

After the northbound freight clears the block she storms through the Soda Creek road crossing.

Wow, thanks Bob! A mere prelude to tomorrow I hope! Listening to that old girl in the Canyon tomorrow will really be something!

Not sure which I'd be more eager to photograph- the 3985 or the 1983. Great photos.

Wonderful shots of the consist.

What is also very noticeable is that the rail and ties are in "meticulous" condition - there does not seem to be a distortion/level deviation in any of the rail and the sub-grade in the series of shots.

I see that she's going to be in Portland for almost 12 days (according to upsteam.com)- any idea where she's going to be on display when she gets there?

Great stuff Bob, love that first one. Just late last night me and a friend decided to take 14 north to Sacto from Oakland, where my friend would pick us up there at the depot, and we would then chase 3985 North, had to end the chase at Tehama, still cool though.

Take Care,
Alex Ramos

What a show today...Hearing 3985 starting on th 2% grade at Soda Creek road was worth every cent of Gas getting up here.
