The "Real" Last Run of McCloud #18

Here is a shot from the photo freight I ran in August of 2005 that may prove to be the last run of Steam on the McCloud. Here is #18 on Nebraska Curve.

This shot shows the drama of steam railroading on the McCloud Ry. Scenes like this will be missed.

Wow! I've obviously missed a lot as this is the first I've heard of this deal. What's up? Is she facing a lot of work?

No the engine is fine, has something over 1300 operating days left on her boiler certificate. The railroad is failing--the #18 was sold to the commission which is rebuilding the Virginia & Truckee from outside Carson City to Gold Hill. Far as I know, it is still stored in McCloud awaiting movement to Nevada.

The McCloud is planning on shutting down by June last I heard, at least in terms of freight, and abandoning the line East of McCloud out thru Bartle and on down to Burney.

Did this photo freight occur after the civil war train in late August?
