Steam & Excursion > ATSF 2926 restoration updateDate: 09/14/09 16:40 ATSF 2926 restoration update Author: Q5632West Greetings all:
The New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society continues to make progress in restoring ATSF 4-8-4 Baldwin 2926 with a 2012 goal for operation. Our reporter Bob Martin updated the progress on KRQE-TV last week and was there when the cab was lifted back into place on Saturday Sept. 5. The story also notes that Jim Hills, who had supervised restoration of the cab, suffered a fall at the site later in the day and died from his injuries the following day. The story and video are on KRQE.com: http://www.krqe.com/dpp/news/local/central/local_krqe_albuquerque_rusty_locomotive_moves_closer_to_rails_200909072105 If there's any problem with the link you can also go to http://www.krqe.com and search "locomotive". New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society: http://www.nmslrhs.org/index.php The group is planning an open house Saturday Sept. 26 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The site is east of 12th Street NW in Albuquerque a few blocks south of the 12th St. exit off Interstate 40. My condolences to his family and friends. Mike Date: 09/15/09 16:49 Re: ATSF 2926 restoration update Author: TomPlatten Working around trains can definitely be hazardous to your health and well being. A gentle was seriously injured in Silverton, CO when he fell off of a narrow gauge boxcar onto a narrow gauge truck. I have received numerous cuts and bruises in my 30 yeat at OERM. I do not think anyone who loves to restore trains would regret the hazards necessary to get a piece of equipment back into operation. I am sure Jim would have felt the same way!
