I've not been hearing anything about planned operations of CP 4-6-4 2816 this year. GW Tours, the principal operator of past trips in 2008 and 2007 isn't saying much on their webpage about the possibility of a fall excursion this year.

You'll note that the IRT Society link (which explicitly offered an October 2010 2816 excursion) no longer works.

Repeating what I said in that thread: "My understanding is that CPR has not made any commitment to operate 2816 on these [IRT Society] trips. There are rumblings that 2816 may operate some corporate trips in 2010, but 'definitely' not on excursions."

Since then I haven't heard any more, good or bad. I think you can assume that if anyone steam-qualified even gets within 100 miles of Calgary, much less in the same building as 2816, it'll be all over the intertubes.

IRT was not running these trips. They were acting as a sales agent for CPR or GW Travel. Although the tour using the Royal Canadian's equipment was being advertised back in July, a CPR official who was on board the 4449's trip from St.Paul to Chicago said the trip had not been approved and was unlikely.

A Sept 1-7 IRT trip from Calgary to Vancouver using the Royal Canadian Pacific equipment was recently changed from a steam powered trip to a diesel powered trip. It appears this trip will run but with the F units instead of the 2816.

A GW Travel charter Sept 26 to Oct 7 has been cancelled because CPR is not making the 2816 available.
