Another In My "Mystery Shay" Series - Good Luck!
Author: LoggerHogger

Here is a nice 2-truck Shay in need of her identity. She is number 2 as seen on the spot plate and cab but that is the last of her identifying marks.

Lets see who can come up with her true owner and location.

Martin,

This is a real stumper. Went to the same source where I identified the last one, and it turns up dry. It appears to be a 42-2, and its real close to a whole lot of locos built for Phillipines (but it is obviously not one of those).

And I don't think it is worth looking through Koch, Lawson, Johnston, Labbe and Goe, et.al., because you have probably already gone to those sources!

I know this one is in Washington State. I have the engineers side of the engine behind her. I know I have her ID, but can not figure out where.

Could even be smaller. Looking at the frame and boiler, could it be a 32-2?

I found a record for one Class B in Washington State with the number 2 that could look like this engine. It was a 32-2 built for Anaconda Copper Mining. According to ShayLocomotive.com, it was b/n 2718, built in 1913. There is no photo I can find, but photos of similar engines look like this one. The 2718 was used by several companies in Montana, then sold to Washington Machinery & Supply Co. in Spokane, WA.

A long shot, but I can't find much else.

Martin,

Now in poke-and-hope mode, but you may have some cross references I do not have.

How about Western Pine Lumber/J.Neils #2 at Klickitat? C/n 2964.

She obviously has a virtually twin sister right behind her, so someone owned at least two of them. Do you have any way of making out a number on the trailing engine?
