Steam & Excursion > The Weekend QuizDate: 04/27/12 20:29 The Weekend Quiz Author: africansteam Seen here at Santa Fe in September of 1973, is one of fifteen Belpaire firebox Pacifics built for Argentina's Ferrocarril Nacional General Belgrano.
What made these locomotives unique? This quiz is also on the International Board. Cheers, Jack Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/27/12 20:38 by africansteam. Date: 04/27/12 20:33 Re: The Weekend Quiz Author: octrax I suppose that blue "bullseye" on the front of the boiler.

------------------------------------------------------- > Was this one of the 4-6-2 Dante Porta converted to > burn Rio Turbio coal? Doubtful. That's an oil tank in the tender, where the coal would be carried on a coal-burner. Also, the stack looks like the OEM version, not Porta's larger-diameter type. But for the life of me, I can't remember what wasunique about these locomotives -- I must be getting *really* old - <sigh>... Were they perhaps the last meter-gauge Pacifics built? ------------------------------------------------------- > Only Lima-Hamilton steam locos in Argentina? > You got it Alan. They were among the last steam locomotives built by Lima-Hamilton, having come out of the works in 1948. The very last Lima-Hamilton steam locomotive was Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 Berkshire No. 779, which was completed in 1949. Cheers, Jack Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 11/22/12 20:36 by africansteam. |
