Raymond Loewy styling, which later inspired Baldwin's "shark nose" diesels. The question of whether the T1's help or hurt Baldwin's case for building the "best looking steam locos" would no doubt stir some lively debate... > Did any survive? Not a one - all were scrapped. > Heck, were any actually built? There is not a Lima engine shown and yet they really did have some eye-appealing engines. Date: 01/26/13 08:41 Re: OK, So Who Built the Best Looking Steam Locos? Author: wcamp1472 Re: Baldwin:
How many PRR GG1s did Baldwin build? Were they "Baldwin/GEs"? IMHO, the PRR GG1s are the BEST locomotives (Tops in appearance, engineering, durability, low maintenance, 120MPH --easy!, AND genuine dual-purpose!) built during that era --- bar none! As a Class, they became the highest (accumulated) mileage engines, ever built. in this country..... Wes. Date: 01/26/13 08:54 Re: OK, So Who Built the Best Looking Steam Locos? I agree with tomstp about beauty's subjective nature; but thanks to those who've posted some really great stuff to illustrate all the beauty of steam. |
