Steam & Excursion > Where Are These 2 SP Engines Parked In 1946?Date: 03/05/13 04:19 Where Are These 2 SP Engines Parked In 1946? Author: LoggerHogger In keeping with my, "Where Is This?" series, let's see who can spot the location where these 2 old SP 4-8-0s are parked ready for another day's service.
If it helps, the date is July 31, 1946. Good luck. Martin Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 03/05/13 04:22 by LoggerHogger. Date: 03/05/13 05:08 Re: Where Are These 2 SP Engines Parked In 1946? Author: flash34 Tillamook?

And for the rest of us that didn't eat all that much cheese over the years, why was two engines unusual? (Although the one in the background looks close to retirement.) I'm under the impression that quite a few SP 4-8-0s were in service into the early/mid-50s, running on light-railed Oregon and California branches. When did the last 4-8-0 run in Oregon? When did the last 4-8-0 run in California? Date: 03/05/13 20:45 Re: Where Are These 2 SP Engines Parked In 1946? Author: wabash2800 Wonderful.

(Although the one in the background looks > close to retirement.) Martin, I second lwilton's question. Why were two locomotives unusual? As an OSU alum myself, and having spent a lot of time down in the Corvallis yards, especially before I had a car, (do a search on my name - I have posted a lot here before from Corvallis) two switch engines were always assigned to Corvallis from 1968 through 1973. First a pair of Baldwin S12s, then a pair of new EMD SW-1500s. Both switch engines would be used for different assignments.
