I Saw a Boiler
Author: Auburn_Ed

A few years back, about 1981-82, I saw a steam locomotive on a flat-bed truck. Auburn, WA, it was a larger locomotive, 8 drivers and whatever, I can't remember and didn't get photos, it headed south out of a truck-yard here. I never found out where it was going, but as I recall, a few years later someone said it was an ex-GN engine, maybe went to the Grand Canyon, but was not used. Anyone have the facts here?

Ed, are you thinking about the GN Consolidation that was at Woodland Park Zoo,(1246?) and is now in Merill Ore.? Maybe Martin will check in...

Cheers, Dave

I have a hunch that Dave's right about it being the 2-8-0 from the Zoo going to Merrill Or.

If it was in the early 1980's it was GN #1246 headed to Oregon from Seattle. She first went to storage at the Johns Mansfield plant near Chiloquin until the late 1990's when she finally made it to Merril where she is today.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the info, it looks like the GN Consolidation.

I saw a boiler,
Fly through the air,
It fell to Earth,
I know not where.
