13. Steam in the cab? Anyone know what was going on here?

After taking a metrolink train back to LA, I then drove to SB later that night for some night shots. For 15 minutes or so the crew fired up the dynamo and powered the lights. Thanks guys!

16. Front view as a double stack freight thunders by
17. Wide view with the station

I had a lot of fun riding the train for once (instead of my usual chase). Everything was super smooth and I think we even arrived 10 minutes early to San Bernardino. I'm not sure I ever expected to go twice to San Bernardino and back in one day (via rail and car) but I'm glad I made the effort to get the night shots. I thought I would be too late to be there when they turned on the lights but as it turned out I arrived just a few minutes before that. I hope you've enjoyed the pics.

Number 17 requires an orange fence filter. Photoshop here we come! But 17 is still a wonderful nostalgia shot! Thank you.

All those night shots are gorgeous! And I really
like the one you took from the Ocean View that
showed the old car at the grade crossing -- perfect!

Thanks! The shot out the window of the old car was actually as I was walking through the train. It was on the other Amtrak car I think.

Nice shots, probably would've also been cool shooting her next to No. 4 when it arrived!

Love the night shots! I like the orange fence in the last shot. It gives a nice juxtaposition between modern and old, mechanical and plastic! YMMV

The old car in Photo 7 is a 1938 Chevy--my dad had a '37. And thanks for the night shots--we old-timers sometimes forget what one can do with digital cameras these days.
