does anybody know ABOUT when the work on 4449 will be done?? didn't see anything on there web site.

The end of November... come hell or more likely, high water.

You are just referring to the boiler work, right?

What other work is being done during this "shopping" other than boiler work? I'm hoping to squeeze in a visit in the coming weeks while in the Portland area for business. It amazes me what the 4449 group have accomplished along with the ORHF over the last few years. The new facility is awesome. Having been in both, I'm sure the crews love their new home!

At this point we are concentrating on the boiler and also rebuilding the throttle cam and valves. The other items on the agenda, hopefully next year, include: dropping a couple driver sets to rework the crown brasses, boring the cylinders and making new piston rings, repairs to the power reverse and air compressors, and rebuilding the tender trucks.

And then have time to take a breath? You have one amazing group of volunteers. All of you have provided many hours of enjoyment for us out here watching 4449 run. I thank you very much and do hope all continues well in your work on the engine.

There is also some electrical work in the mix somewhere. Yes, steam locomotives have wires. And 70 year old wires, are, well, flaky. Not a big deal, but that will be my contribution.

It's definitely needed, Dave.

eBay. I'm sure some fans have an urgent need for 70 year old steam locomotive wire.

After all this work is done I bet the ol' girl'll be looking good as new and ready for another big excursion! I miss seeing her in action myself!
