Before She Was Famous- NWP #112 At Santa Rosa!
Author: LoggerHogger

While David Joslyn is most remembered for his fine images of Southern Pacific steam power taken during his many years working as SP's photographer, he also got out and did some railfan photography of his own on his spare time.

In the summer of 1930 Joslyn found himself in Santa Rosa, California. He could hear train movements in the nearby yards so he grabbed his camera and off he went to see what was going on. What he caught was NWP 4-6-0 #112 switching the yard to make up the afternoon train out of town. At the time, #112 was simply just another one of the NWP fleet of steam power on the NWP lines north of San Francisco. 25 years after this photo was taken, #112 would have the distinction of being the last NWP steam locomotive left in existence and would become the only one saved for preservation.

For us today, we can be thankful that Joslyn decided this simple scene was worth saving just like #112 would ultimately be saved herself.

I heard a rumor that the Northwestern Pacific Historical Society in Petaluma was going to try to restore her to operational condition, but once again just a rumor
