El Dorado County approved earlier this week running a train on the last Sunday each month (except for October) from Folsom to Latrobe for the remainder of the year. The train will leave Folsom at 7:30 AM and return at 10:30 AM and is being run in conjunction with a pancake breakfast in Latrobe (included in ticket price). First trip is this Sunday, August 31. The railroad is facing some local opposition who want to rip up part of the trackage and convert it to a trail. These breakfast trips do not cover the whole route but are longer than their normal weekend short trips. Sadly, several tourist lines are facing similar opposition (such as the Catskill Mountain RR and the Adirondack Scenic) from trail advocates so ride them while you can. The railroad's web site is http://www.psvrr.org/ It seems that you can only buy tickets for the August 31 trip at this time.
