Steam & Excursion > New development, UP 4014?

I really can NOT believe THIS! Mr. Tom Payne, famous for the conversion to oil burning on that Reading T-1 #2100, has been contacted by the current manager at the UP Steam Shop in Cheyenne? Because Mr. Payne has "more experience" in converting a large steam locomotive to oil burning than anyone the current manager knows?

Totally unbelievable!

Now lets not split hairs over this. THAT is a legal issue, and has nothing to do with its operation.

So if everybody has left the program how do these rumors keep coming out? And where did this rumor come from?

Every time you post something I think it's satire. Like when people post things from The Onion thinking they're real news.

But then it turns out it IS real and I get a dizzy feeling.

Too bad nobody ever converted a large UP articulated from coal to oil in recent memory.

Even some of the newbies have limits as to what they
believe is right and wrong and are not afraid to throw
the "BS" flag when their integrity is involved. Besides,
everything said or done there is out in front of the
whole world, and the manager has a long habit of
mouthing off in front of cameras and people who
know a little more than he gives them credit for.

The whole deal is really scary but if Mr Dickens is concentrating on 4014 that means the other engines are safe. I'm glad he leaves 3985 alone.

My impression of both Dickens and Payne is that they are both so stubborn and thick headed that they could never work together. Two of a kind.

He's leaving all 3 alone for now, concentrating on
silly little make-work stuff and trying to plug the

Mr. Payne should not be considered for the operation of a toy train after what he did to the former Reading T-1 #2100. Folks, what he did was a total disaster and he is very lucky that someone was not killed.
Besides, he has legal problems right now.
