WMSR CMO let go?
Author: HBWX

I heard disturbing news (confirmed) from a co-worker today that the WMSR CMO was let go. It's hard to find a nicer, more competent and hard working guy than Dan P.

Sorry to hear this news.

Holy crap! Dan is a very knowledgeable guy, so I wonder what the "other side of the story" is.

For those of us who do not know; please what is WMSR? Why can't you spell it out?
Thank you.

"WMSR" = Western Maryland Scenic Railroad
in Cumberland, Maryland.
Home of the 425 -- that blue Pacific -- and the
new home of the C&O 1309, a 2-6-6-2, which is
supposed to be under restoration.

Now I wonder what is going to happen to both
the 425 and the 1309.

Margaret, unless there is a new development I'm not aware of, the 425 is still owned by Andy Mueller of Blue Mountain & Reading. WMSR does operate #734 which is an ex LS&I 2-8-0.

Finderskeepers ----
Thank you SO much for the correction!
Got m,y locomotives wrong. :( But I am
right about the WMSR being the new home
of the 1309. Shoulda checked my facts before
I posted here.

I hope all works out well for the WMSR and the 1309.

Thank you Margaret for your reply. I don't know why people insist on putting messages on here using only letters and for us to guess. I guess its called being lazy; not to hurt anyone's feelings here but honestly, I hate using only initials. I don't like CSX as it should be "Chessie Seaboard R.R." and BNSF should still be "Burlington Northern Santa Fe" which is what I still call them.

You're not lazy. Next time try putting WMSR into your
favorite search engine. Google is a pretty good
guesser.

John.

I worked for Dan at the scenic back in the 90's. Great guy, great boss knows a lot about steam engines. He and his talents will be missed.

Haven't seen any confirmation on this; so far, it's just a rumor.

Dan sent out an email this morning, confirming that he's no longer employed at the railroad.

It does not indicate whether the separation was voluntary or involuntary.

No truer quote Realist! I've known Dan and worked along side him and that man is a wealth of knowledge and not afraid to pass it on to the younger generation. Sad to hear of his departure but there are only greener pastures for him ahead.

Actually, I should have said he's OVERquailfied for
Cheyenne, because he knows what he's doing. That
kind of thing is not wanted in Cheyenne and will be
resisted.

Dan Pluta is an extremely knowledgeable steam man. I'm sorry he is no longer there. Where ever he lands, that group will be very lucky to have him. But, this can't be good for the restoration of the 2-6-6-2. I always thought this engine would be running long before the Big Boy.
