Steam & Excursion > DL to speak in Denver

From Trains mag: Ed Dickens, senior manager of Heritage Operations for the Union Pacific, will present at the Rocky Mountain Train Show at 11 am on March 7, 2015. His talk will cover the Cheyenne steam shop and locomotives . . .

Maybe there'll be a question and answer session! :)

Last year he refused to take questions.

Wonder if we could have a "plant" in the audience? All it would take would be 2 well crafted questions, related to some of the lies that he has put-out over the last 3 to 4 years.

I think most of these groups like the railroad club should just boycott having this idiot come and speak. This animal doesn't deserve to have a soap box to come and preach all his lies. The fact that it will be a long time before the railroad club ever has a excursion ran for them or that the DL will even run one for them even if he had operable steam locomotive, should tell them something. It would at least make a statement in my opinion. I think anyone with a brain has figured out by now what is and has been going on.

Some model railroaders (and fans) don't really have a clue what's going on in railroading . . . the organizers of this show might not know anything about what's been happening in Cheyenne . . . all they know is that they got a "celebrity" to speak at their function.

I say we should take up a collection and send HotWater to ask questions for our T.O. group.

Every time that I see Ed Dickens name mentioned, I start checking the news feeds to see if there has been an increase in spousal abuse and dog kicking in the steam fan community. You guys need to get back on your medication.

So all the total lack of TRUTHFUL information out of Cheyenne, and lack of any functional UP steam locomotives, doesn't bother you in the slightest?

Why is Ed Dickens referred to as "DL"? What does that mean?

There has been a 100% decrease in operable UP steam
locomotives under this guy, accompanied by nearly
200% in crew turnover and a 500% increase in
discrimination and harassment lawsuits.

Perhaps you should get off the hallucinogens.

Not going to work anyway. Asking questions will play to his strength, dodging/deflecting/misdirecting questions. The fact that he has remained as manager of UP Steam for this long, means he can fool a lot of people. I don't expect an average model railroader to realize who you are and your huge contributions to railroading, so they'll think you're just a troll.

Better idea might be to have people run models of UP 3985 on ALL the layouts at the show, but no Big Boys anywhere. The clever ones can model a tool car wreck on the layout, or corroded tubes sitting outside a roundhouse. People who are sinister can run a UP Business Special with UP 844 NOT leading, as if it's being towed dead. It's not prototypical but should send a message that model railroaders are unhappy with what's going at the UP Steam program.

And if model railroader types reading this thread think that I am being mean, consider the fact that rumors of "UP 3985 will NEVER RUN AGAIN" and the excitement about the Big Boy was started by Dickens and his minions back in 2010, at YOUR EXPENSE. UP 4014 move was a publicity stunt at YOUR EXPENSE. Right now, there's no UP Steam running, and it's VERY unlikely Big Boy will run by 2019. I wouldn't wait 4 more years to find out you've been tricked.

The nice thing about modeling is it is trivial to play games with scale. I kinda think an Auto Club tow truck with the rear end of the stranded E unit on the lift, being towed backward down the right lane of the freeway back to Cheyenne might be nice. You could even put the two-wheel dolly the tow trucks carry under the front truck for authenticity.

Sad isn't, many uninformed individuals gleefully followed and believed everything said by another clown 75 years ago . . . .

I've heard people say: "I don't want to hear the facts, I've already made up my mind." and DL continues on.

I was shocked to hear that the DL will be addressing the joint convention of the UPHS-CNWHS convention in Omahahaha in June.
