Convicts hijack SP 4449 in 1981
Author: px320

Any one who was at the Railfair '81 Pageant at CSRM in Sacramento on one special day in May of 1981 will know what this is about.

For those who were not, here's the story.

One of the Pageant sequences was a Keystone Cops scene with a befuddled cop chasing a group of escaped convicts.

During the chase 4449 would come into the scene, pass through, then back out with the convicts chasing the train on a hand car.

This is what happened when the 4449 crew conspired with the actors with out the knowledge of the shows' director, Barry Garland.

This gag happened only one time and it was priceless.

That looked like it was a lot of fun. They don't have shows like that anymore.

Good catch, I didn't think of the connection. I'll change the title a little.

Nope. That was Doyle and, I can't remember who the other guy was, as I was operating 4449 crouched down out of sight. That really was fun.

Thanks, HotWater! Which one was Doyle?

I was at Railfair '81, but I do not remember
seeing that great gag. Darn! That was a
great Railfair, wasn't it?

Stan -- I, too, thought you were referring to
"Tough Guys", but realized that couldn't be
right, as "Tough guys" wasn't even made
until 1985 or 1986 (It came out in 1986.)

As I said earlier in this thread, this gag only happened once and that was in one afternoon show on one of the last days.

As Barry said: "We should have done it for the whole time."

I wasn't there either, but that just is typical of the imagination, talent, and just pure fun that the 4449 crew is capable of and does. I thought it was great.

Mr. McCormack is the one facing 4449 on the handcar, his back to the camera.
