Steam & Excursion > Which ones would you choose?Date: 03/24/15 03:06 Which ones would you choose? Author: apollo17 Which displayed steam locomotive would you want to see rebuilt for service out of all that are currently 'stuffed and mounted' as it were across the country? For me....that's more than one. Without looking around on the net just off the top of my head for me it would be N&W 1218 and 2156 and the C&O 1604 and maybe the Yellowstone that's displayed in Michigan I believe.
Date: 03/24/15 04:44 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: Labby No Yellowstone in Michigan, but around here (Durand) folks would like to see GTW 4-6-2 #5632 up and running.

Author: Keystone1 One of the two Frisco Meteor, blue 4-8-4's and one of the two 2-6-6-6's. Also, throw in a Pennsy K-4s and the Pennsy M1b. I'd rather see a "new" locomotive than a more practical ...repeat.
Date: 03/24/15 05:32 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: Keystone1 Oh, lets not forget the New York Central 4-8-2.

I'm sure the folks in New England would love to see big steam in operation but the odds are against it. Date: 03/24/15 06:49 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: 3751_loony My own choice would be the ATSF 5021 and the SP cab-forward, located at the California State RR museum. Both are pinnacles in their own right.

Author: NKP779 The late Glenn Brendel, founder of the FWRHS (NKP 765) had a hankering to see one of those big CB&Q Hudsons rebuilt, or the C&O 4-6-4 490 with its poppet valves. That may be the most mechanically modern steam locomotive in the USA.

Date: 03/24/15 08:14 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: tomstp CB&Q hudson, Texas & Pacific 610, Frisco 4-8-4, SP cab forward.
Date: 03/24/15 08:21 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: NWClassJ 1218 would be first for me but I would love to also see a CB&Q Hudson.

1601 at the Henry Ford museum. NYC 3001 at Elkhart, AT&SF 3463 or 5021 or CN 6167 4-8-4 in Guelph (but would settle for 6213 in Toronto. Date: 03/24/15 09:16 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: badtanker1987 Can't pick just one... I would have to pick the UP 9000, 4-12-2 "Union Pacific" Type since it matches the 3985 in power and was state of the art in the 20s. Also the SP 4294, 4-8-8-2 cab forward "AC-12" Type, a mamoth engine and the last new locomotive ordered by Southern Pacific. The N&W engines but with 611 I think chances are better for those.

Date: 03/24/15 10:22 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: Wolfman Union Pacific 4014 !
Date: 03/24/15 11:00 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: NS19K A C&O Kanawha such as 2716 or even better, 2789.
Date: 03/24/15 11:07 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: welchblvd Definitely 1218, and I hold out hope it may one day happen presuming VMT gets their shop. Second place would be CB&Q 4-6-4 4000 currently on display in La Crosse, WI. Gorgeous engine. Otherwise anything NYC or Pennsy.
Date: 03/24/15 11:47 Re: Which ones would you choose? Author: Keystone1 What truly amazes me with a question like this...is the number of guys who want to see recent "repeats". Ok. I get it, I am a bit older than they are and they missed CN 6167, or N&W 1218. Think of all those engines out there...waiting to be "farmed" and returned to service.
