"A Letter to the Union Pacific Corporation"
Author: KeyRouteKen

Good Evening to all of my friends in the overall railfan fraternity wherever you may be ! I have finally had enough of the rumors, idle chatter, innuendoes, flaming, hearsay, lies, et al regarding the Union Pacific Steam Program in Cheyenne, WY.    So I decided, as a party of one, to write a personal letter to the top UPRR officials in Omaha, NE and point out several items I considered CRITICAL.    I've been told by many that I am good with words, write great stories, write great letters, et al and so I wanted to see if the corporate leaders would respond to me at all, especially regarding this sticky subject.  Some of YOU, such as "Margaret-SP Fan" said they would NEVER see it (my letter) and that they would simply throw it in the trash like so many others !    NOT SO !!   Just this afternoon I received a very nice letter from Executive Vice-President and Corporate Secretary 'Diane Duren' ...... Sounds like the steam program will continue to live !     Only time will tell !    Note : (see Margaret-SP Fan): They did not throw it in the trash after all !      Hooray !!I
In closing, I decided to do this from the bottom of my heart and with all sincerity to benefit all of YOU and future generations to come !!   I trust you'll like what I had to say as well as the response from UPRR   !    Thank you for your attention.

KEN SHATTOCK
(aka "Key Route Ken")

Well, I sure don't know who Diane is, but it is plainly obvious that you received the "standard" form letter back from the UP. She also has no clue what has been going on in Cheyenne since January 2011.

By the way, VERY nice letter Ken.

Jack,
I believe Diane is Ed's superior person in Omaha.

That would be correct as evidenced by her picture on top of the organization chart outside Ed's office.

UP certainly was not going to wash its linen in public and their response was predictable.

Well, there you go Bob.,,,,,That PROVES that she has no clue, and should be fired right along with the current manager for allowing what has happened over the last 4+ years, and covering it up to boot!

"We have the right team in place"...did I miss something, or is this just a cruel joke?

Don't let Thomas go anywhere near Cheyenne!

Maybe it would get more attention if Thomas was sent to Cheyenne for some work. The UP would have a real PR nightmare when word got out that the UP "Killed Thomas the Tank Engine".

Well Ken, the UP just blew off your letter. They don't see your problem

Nice effort, Ken.  Too bad you got a boiler plate reply.

Obviously the root of the problem is that the poeple in charge
actually DO think they have the right team in place, when it is
so blatantly obvious they don't.

Lacking any operating or mechanical background or experience,
all she and they know is what they are spoon-fed from Cheyenne.

Did anybody else notice their vanilla ice cream letter made no mention of the 3985?

Yup, and to me, it seemed like her answers were "fed" by someone else.

I'm not concerned with the state of the UP Steam program now. Let the court of public opinion decide whether we have bumbling fools in Omaha or not. I want to see justice for Mr. Krenning, that's all.

Hey Folks:  Have any of you stopped to think that the Union Pacific may have stopped because of shareholders getting upset with them?  Have they been influenced by CSX and their management?  Has a big shot lawyer at UP gotten involved behind the scenes?
There could be valid reasons why things are going the way they are with the UP and they will not put this out for the public to see.  In reality, it's really none of our business unless we are a shareholder, and major shareholders have a tremendous amount of influence with a corporation.  Just something to think about and ramble about.

You'd have to be a VERY large shareholder or major shipper to even cause a blip on Dodge Street,
they're a very dedicated straight line group with major discipline. You learn a lot when you do
business with them.

Ken:

Kudos to you for at least trying to find out what's going on by contacting UP directly.

Sharholders, if they cared at all, would be more conerned with
the floundering  and flailing around going on than any delays.

3985 wasn't merntioned because the seeds were planted in
2011 that it is a wreck and can't be repaired. It was almost redy
to run, then tales went back to Omaha that the boiler was
warped, had been drilled full of holes, had never been inspected
since the 1950s and other damnable lies.

Shareholders are probably more concerned with the value of their stock losing nearly 25% of it's value in the last 4 months.  Business is down.  Not likely those steam engines are high on the budget priorities.  Probably near the top of the chopping block list.
