Steam & Excursion > Refueling an every day workhorseDate: 10/05/15 13:12 Refueling an every day workhorse Author: Q4960 Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling, Illinois roughly 45 years ago on one of my first visits there, being refueled. This would have been just before the ex-GTW 0-8-0's were converted from coal to oil. Steam lasted until 1980 and I made many trips up there.

Would love to read some of those stories...and about those repairs! It read something like: "A steam locomotive in every box of nails!".. I guess they scrapped steam engines by the hundreds back in those days!

Thanks for posting these. Bob Date: 10/05/15 16:51 Re: Refueling an every day workhorse Author: Q4960 glibby Wrote:
