PM 1225 Departs Owosso at Dusk
Author: jkh2cpu

Last week we were graced with clear skies, snow, and coldish
temps. This week the snow is gone and the temps are a bit
colder. I caught PM 1225 earlier in the day, but this afternoon
I got the video that I was after: departing Owosso at dusk.

What's that white flashing light on the top of the crossing gate post for?

Indicator light letting train crews know the gate is functioning.

Thanks, Guys!

I think they have several whistles for that engine, one
of which points forward, and seems to really block the view
when the wind is right. Of course, what do I want with a
video? Clean shots or all of the action. I'll take the
action :-)

Great video of a the machine.

Recently all videos showing logos running, is it normal to keep ringing the bell for so long?

Bell ringing: Good question! Yes, required while running thru areas where people are in cars, walking, running, bicycling, listening to their tunes, or just generally clueless to their surroundings. Every day humans are being killed or injured by entering onto the tracks and being struck by a train. Some even use the train as a method of ending their life. Then leave their loved ones the choice of suing the RR. Just this Sunday night there was a death reported on the Portland, OR news of a person struck and killed by a Tri-Met train in a fenced off area one quarter of a mile from the station platform. Remember these are humans who have no interest in trains, unlike most of us on this excellent website who have a keen interest in the sound of a whistle or loco bell or even the low rumble of a diesel engine quietly rolling along.
A couple of times I have witnessed four teens struggle to climb a high chain link fence, fall onto the mainline tracks, then continue to struggle to climb the next fence to get off the tracks when there was a foot bridge just 50 yards away. A couple of them were carrying their fishing gear, pole and tackle box and climbing the fences. When I suggested the foot bridge they just looked at me as if I was the stupid one.
Then there are the photographers who pose their subjects (humans) right on the mainline tracks. Once I had one ask me if that was a good idea. Needless to say they received an ear full of bloody encounters with trains. By the way just in this last year there was a famous photographer or videographer killed by a train while trying to get a close video clip. Next thing you know they will have to sound the bell and whistle continuously.
Then they blame us railfans for being too close to the tracks? I don't want blood, brains or guts on my camera.

The first three red cars are the "dome" cars. :)
