2472 Moving Date or Plans?
Author: norm1153

Greetings:  Is the 2472 still at Niles Canyon, or has it already been moved towards the coast?:  I've gotten conflicting reports, and also can't find anything specific regarding her destination here on TO.
Thanks, Norm

AFAIK, the 2472 is still in Niles Canyon.
The Big Move is not -- according to our newsletter,
"The Dispatcher's Sheet" -- expected to take place
until this summer.  There is simply far too much to
be done for any such move to have happened yet.

Contractors are working to prepare the equipment
for the move.

According to "The Dispatcher's Sheet", the exact date
of the big move will not be known until right before it
happens.

The Golden Gate Railroad Museum has been a guest at Niles Canyon Railway/Pacific Locomotive Association since they had to move from the remnants of Hunters Point Naval Shipyard 9 years ago.  The two groups have coexisted quite well, despite what you might read, but there is no room in the NCRY for both group's equipment - just packed now, and the Brightside yard cannot expand without carving out hillside.  The GGRM will be moving this year to Santa Cruz on the former Santa Cruz branch of the SP/UP, now owned by the Santa Cruz RTC.    B
