*IF* the city of Nashville agrees to a lease. And we all know what has happened in the past when people have asked the City of Nashville for the 576.

A great choice to bring back to life as its compact size would be at home on many railroads.

Are THAT many railroads wishing for a steam locomotive to operate on their lines?

I'm also suspicious when the TC group is involved. There has been some shady stuff happen there in the past.

Trains Magazine just posted the official announcement
(free article)
http://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2016/04/26-ncstl

Meador’s $5 million vision calls for leasing 576 from the Nashville Metro government and moving the engine to the Tennessee Central Railway Museum on the Nashville & Eastern Railroad. The restored J3 would lead excursions over the 108-mile N&E — the former Tennessee Central Railway east of Nashville — using 14 passenger cars from the museum's collection.
Meador led the Southern Nos. 630 and 4501 programs for Norfolk Southern’s 21st Century Steam at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga. He’s assembled a team that also includes NC&StL Preservation Society Secretary-Treasurer David Ellenburg as soceity treasurer, and Trains Editor Jim Wrinn and steam locomotive expert Gary Bensman on the board of directors.
The preservation society makes its pitch May 3 to the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation. So far, the reception has been positive.

From what I gather in the announcement, there's at least one line in Nashville willing to run it. That should be plenty enough.

Seems to be several steam projects or proposals out there these days where the board of directors include contractors that are or will be bidding on the work. Looks a little suspicious.

Then there are also various board members whose employers stand to gain from projects as well, whether or not those projects are successful.

What about the line that this will supposedly run on? Is it a 10 mph branch, or a 40 mph main line?

59 mph commuter line for the first 30 miles, 25 or 30 mph after that.

Meanwhile, if it was a bunch of people no one has heard of, everyone would be wondering what experience do they have with these kind of projects.

Good points. I could understand the same contractors working on several jobs at the same time.

I don't understand how people on multiple boards of directors, who are presumably responsible for
at least some fund raising for each, avoid at minimum the appearance of what, at first glance, look
like conflicts of interest.

It's almost, IMO, incestuous.

The important take away here in reguard to previous attempts is that now the city wants the engine gone, as it is now in the way of future plans.

I agree and go a step further I don't thing any member of a non-profit group or organization should be paid to do work on the equipment that belongs to that particular origanization. They get paid to do the work on the equipment and then turn around and get to "play" I think it is unfair to the group and especially the dedicated volunteers. Another point is that the contractor definitely shouldn't be on the board of directors. That is completely screwed up to be on the board of directors and then get to vote for their selfs to be the contractor. How can these non profit groups claim that they are non profit if they are paying their members to work on their equipment. If they want to get paid to work on the equipment then they should then give up their membership or be like everybody else in the group and donate their time.
