AFT 2.0
Author: Jsporseen

At yesterday afternoons event at the ORHC there was an announcement of an AFT 2.0 for 2018 with a new website and planning starting soon.

Please keep everyone informed as to when this website becomes active.

It was also announced that two steam locomotives would be used because of the regular boiler washes that are required.  I have the perfect two (rather I recommend them), 4449 and 700,

This would be a dream come true and a great fund raiser for wounded veterans.

Sounds like yet another attempt to resurrect the failed Yellow Ribbon Express project from many years ago.  I'll believe it when I see it.  PRR 1361 will probably run first.

You want two locomotives? Fine, how about SP 4449 and ATSF 3751.

You know we have more than a few examples of big steam in
the midwest :-) This could be tons of fun :-)

Ross pitched the AFT to 50+ possible donors eating up about 2yrs until he struck gold with Pepsi. Then all the pieces quickly fell into place (just in time!).
The same process is in play now.
This thing can go from a joke to brilliant in the course of a lunch.
Point: don't bet against Ross.

I'm wondering if the logical thing to do would be to go and pitch it to Pepsi again?

Weren't there several engines looked at for the original?  I recall hearing Frisco 4500 or 4501 getting a lookover.  In proper Frisco paint, Blue tender, white stripe and red "Meteor" logo.
Oh well, that was a long time ago.

Personally, I would wonder if there would be anyone ALIVE within the top management of Pepsi that would even remember what they started in 1973/1974. I know there isn't anybody within General Motors Corp any more.

Also, I don't think the current youngest generation (whatever they call them now) would give a damn about the 250th birthday of our country anyway.

Could this be the incentive to get Texas & Pacific #610 back in operation?

If it gets off the ground I can't see it being pulled entirely by steam, except for some token legs.

Wouldnt it actually be American Freedom train 3? there was one in the 40's..  there were 2 main steam engines through out the country because 4449 is to big for some of the northeastern roads, Thats what my dad told me anyway. So theres that if it still applys. They had an engine in texas that pulled it. or was it 2?

The '47 train was simply the FREEDOM TRAIN (no AMERICAN). So the AFT 2.0 name refers to Ross' AFT. This is really the YELLOW RIBBON EXPRESS renamed, Ross taking Barry Howard's suggestion for an updated name. (Barry Howard designed much of the 1975-76 AFT)
