UP Steam Shop - Depot Days
Author: ts2100

I was able to tour the Steam Shop and Roundhouse earlier this Sat evening. Thought I'd share a few pictures.

Wow ! It looks like they gold plated the 4014s number plate. Must mean they have the locomotive almost finished . Nice touch, but maybe a little early.

4014 is still deep in the restoration process. See photo number 1.

Nope. Since she will "never run again", according to the current manager, she no longer needs a headlight.

From what you can see of it, the running gear sure looks nice.

Yes, that running gear SHOULD look "nice", what with all new crankpins, tires, and rod bearings, prior to the current manager getting ahold of her.

A little Golden Spike symbolism, perhaps?

In the first picture showing 4014's fire box. There are a number of riveted round plates with a pipe fitting in the middle.
Overfire jets???

They're washouts for the circulators.

So much for historical accuracy and authenticity.

Expect much more chrome, stainless, polished brass,
silver tires and running boards, removal of the
sludge system, etc.

Like 844, it will become a caricature of what it was
and should be.

That's sad to hear Jack!

Half way there then sorta...so if 3985 ever is returned to operation (I know, I know...) it will be a 611-ish project, much less work than 4014 or 844's last boiler wash...Holding out hope for The DumpTruck..

Cheers, Dave

4014 will stand in adequately for 3985 until Ed retires.
Meanwhile 3985 sits protected from the weather inside the round house.

Yes, 3985 is "protected from the weather". However, 3985 is NOT "protected" from the current manager!

Yes, with light trains and diesels and service
stops every 5 miles.
