Steam & Excursion > 765 Storms Into Blue Island TonightDate: 06/17/17 21:29 765 Storms Into Blue Island Tonight Author: stuporchief NKP 765 made a dramatic entrance into Blue Island tonight during a thunderstorm.
Thank you 765 Foundation for keeping this great locomotive operating for decades. And thank you Metra for permitting the 765 to really stretch its legs today. At Tinley Park I overheard a radio transmission: "765 you are good for 75." You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! I thought I heard thunder near end, but looks like maybe you had to dash for shelter?? Or is there any more footage?

pouring rain and getting this great video! She really looks great! And she got authorized to go 75? Wonderful! THANK you Matra, for letting the RUN and so FAST!! (that way she keeps up with any other passenger trains on that line.) THANK you, FWRHHS and Matra and Amtrak -- and the awesome 765's crewQ!! Date: 06/18/17 09:49 Re: 765 Storms Into Blue Island Tonight Author: stuporchief You know how things don't usually go the way you'd hoped when you go out to get photos of a train?
Happily, this was one time when everything came together EXACTLY as I'd hoped. First, the train's deadhead move back to 47th St. occurred about when I expected. Second, it came through at speed, as I hoped. And finally, I had been watching the weather reports all day, with the potential for thunderstorms. How perfect, I thought! And as the engine approached Blue Island -- with lightning flahsing and thunder rolling -- rain came out of sky in torrents as if on cue when the engine thundered across the bridge. I've never been so happy to get soaking wet in my life! Date: 06/18/17 10:47 Re: 765 Storms Into Blue Island Tonight Author: ChrisCampi Nice!

------------------------------------------------------- "...And she got authorized to go 75? Wonderful!..." In our first meeting with the Metra Operating Department early last year, the very first question I was asked by the VP of Operations was, "Can that locomotive run 79 mph?" I assured him it could...and the rest is history. Date: 06/18/17 12:48 Re: 765 Storms Into Blue Island Tonight Author: UPTRAIN I could watch this one over and over. It's uncommon enough to see a steam locomotive at night, but blasting through a thunderstorm like that preceded by a Mars light cutting through the drops is just downright otherworldly.
