Two beautiful images.
Imagine how hot the cab of 4449 was since it was 107 degrees in the river valley.

Now you're reminding me of the movie "Slum Dog Millionaire".  Glad the interaction didn't leave a mark, thanks for the pix!

Ah! The Hazards of Railfannig! (Nice pics by the way) And Your very lucky, that was probably one hot and upset snake! Possibly living under the PP. I used to wear shin-high snake boots while railfanning out in the Nevada or Idaho desert in the summer, just in case any nasty critters came along, while all my attention was on the camera's viewfinder, and all alone in the middle of nowhere!

Chris, nice job capturing the immense walls of the Deschutes canyon that most people don't get in their photos. What a clean stack on the 49. Pat or Jack?

Thanks for taking these great shots! I saw these locations while scouting around. Choosing a location along the Oregon Trunk is a challenge, because there are so many possibilities.

I've had rattlesnake encounters, but most of them before I became an incurable foamer. The big ones typically don't attack unless they think the situation is dire. I've been tasked with a stick to move them off the trail on several occasions, when other hikers were unwilling to do that. I pissed one off enough that it made sure I heard it rattle for at least from quarter mile away... but it never uncoiled and attacked.

The little ones are the ones I'm afraid of. I've seen them spray out their venom when I try to move them off-trail.

Luckily, I only saw shed snake skin yesterday.

Fishing question if I may......Anyone know what the general fishing regulations are in this stretch ? Would love to throw a line while photographing the railroad.
