Yes, a steam locomotive is a different kind of beast as a main-line 2-8-4 or a 4-8-4 is very loud when they are running along pulling a train and they will draw attention of everyone who is within sight and sound. One can hear a steam whistle for miles especially when the wind is blowing and as you are aware, when one of these beasts goes by, they literally shake the ground which also gets folks attention. There is nothing like this anywhere. Oh for the good old days when we had steam excursions on the B&O and the Western Maryland in our area. John in White Marsh, Maryland. They have done this for several years now. It seems to be quite popular and works well for everyone. Thanks you NS and any other railroads involved for letting it happen!
