Small world. My wife and I stayed at the General Palmer Hotel in the background of your shot from Mickey Ds.

That's the Mickey Ds where I had my first Sausage and egg mcmuffin. We stayed at a Best Western (I think) across from the roundhouse and had a room with a balcony. The coal smoke was an added bonus. I don't think its a hotel any more. I probably wouldn't recognize most of Durango now.

John and Don, you guys should come down and ride the Cumbres with our group next year. We have a ball.

Often see UP & BNSF crews make a run to Carl's Jr here in Mojave. Back in the '50s and '60s Reno's in Mojave was the go-to place for the rails. My wife was a waitress there for years and knew all the local rails.
Trusty's in Tehachapi was also popular there.

When I last visited for the photographer's special couple of years ago, the Best Western was still there, smell of coal smoke and all.

Been to that McD every time I've been to Durango.
