I know exactly where you are, thanks for posting! Those switchbacks up from Beddgelert are so wonderful and beautiful. Did you hear of any updates as to the status to steam of the 4th Garrett in the facility at Dinas??

Apparently it was brought up yesterday evening on the pre-Snowdonian tour of Boston Lodge, it's the priority at present as 87 is due an overhaul and the company want to maintain a stud of three active Garratts.

Yeah, and I'm normally among them but this year decided to chase instead.

Beautiful! I'm hoping to get there this year for the first time. It will probably be in August or September. Is there a book describing the best places to view it? My wife and I will ride it one day then I will probably leave her in a village to shop while I go back to film. Are there any good shopping villages nearby?

Carnarvon at the north end of the line and Porthmadog at the south end are the most likely places for shopping. They're both tourist towns so lots of gift/craft shops and cafes...of varying quality.

Portmeirion, the fantasy village created by Clough Williams-Ellis is next door to Porthmadog. Neither Porthmadog nor Caernarfon have much in the way of shops to entertain you.

If you look on the railway's website (www.festrail.co.uk) at their online shop - in-house publications there are guides to both railways.

Thank you, I will check the website. I'm a huge fan of "The Prisoner" so I plan to stay in "The Village."
