ATSF 2926 Update June 2, 2018
Author: Cumbresfan

Work status reports and photo sets for May through June 2 have been posted. Also new are our First Quarter 2018 Newsletter and meeting minutes.

News of the derailment was posted here last week including pictures ( https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,4568728 ). As described then and in the work status update, it will be costly to rerail the engine, rebuild the work pit and rebuild our gift shop. If you can help with these costs, please donate via our home page or through our Facebook page. If not a member, please consider joining via the "How to Help" link also on our Home Page.

Also, you can help to reverse Amtrak's recent charter/special train elimination by signing the "Revoke the Amtrak Ban on Charter Trains and Private Car Movements" petition at change.org. You do not have to pay a donation for that. You can also help by writing to or calling your elected representatives at federal, state and local levels. Amtrak removal of the ban would allow passenger operation of several big beautiful locomotives and many charter trains.

Before the mishap, pictures show happy, enthusiastic volunteers at work getting ready for the steam up. In fact, a practice steam-up was held June 2 and a video made!

Photo 2. A local group of artists visited to sketch the engine, tender and our engine mover, Lurch. The May 26 update pictures sixteen of the drawings made by the "Urban Sketchers."

Photo 3. Longtail's feral credentials are in jeopardy!

As with two feral cats who are currently 17 lbs., they have discovered that getting their itchy head scratched feels pretty good, as does taking a nap with Dad!

This was the meanest, nastiest, most vicious, ferel mess you ever saw until I caught him in a
trap, and got him "domesticated". Now, he's the sweetest old mellowed out lap warmer I ever had. He's the Golden Love Cat now. He just wanted to be a pet I guess, but it cost him. He weights about 18 lbs.

Ohhhh... Locopilot, that is such an amazing transformation you did with that cat! I absolutely LOVE your description of him, both before and after you "domesticated" him! You do have a gift for words, sir! And please give your Golden Love Cat a lovey for me! What a sweet guy!

Trapped a few myself.

Yes, that operation does wonders. I hope he got a rabies shot at the same time.

Love the bathtub view...

Pokey (whose picture has appeared here before) would do the same thing when she was younger, and carelessly let her tail dip in the bathwater. Then she would spend the next ten minutes chasing her tail as through something had gotten ahold of it. Once it dried out, all was right with the world again.

Fred once tried to walk along the narrow ridge on the other side of the tub but fell in. You never saw something land in the water and then jump back out so fast at the same time. You would think he could fly. One famous photographer said there are three things really photogenic: cats, women and cats. Sorry, he didn't mention trains.
