Lots of time, effort and dollars to repaint and bring it back to that condition. At least $20,000 to be sure. By the way, over the years, I've found out that - - - "Those persons with the lowdest voices have the laziest asses." Bill Deaver Tehachapi, CA Date: 08/04/18 20:34 Re: SP 1195 in fresh paint in Niles Canyon. Author: kilroydiver Now all the NCRy needs is a car barn or two to keep these beautifully restored engines out of the elements.

Yes much hard work put in by the NCRy for sure. But a huge shout out should go to the fine fiolks at the Richmond Pacific who retained much of the jewelry and cared enough to make the locomotive available to us and the public we serve. That Scarlet & Gray sceme looks Great when fresh, shiny and new! Jim Baker Riverside, CA Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/05/18 15:07 by RailRat. Date: 08/05/18 14:52 Re: SP 1195 in fresh paint in Niles Canyon. Author: EMDSW-1 Very nice restoration of the SP 1195 complete down to the friction bearing trucks and full light complement. B E A U T I F U L paint job!
Oregon Pacific (OPR) owns the ex-SP 1127 which is in the process of being restored to the scarlet / gray. After the engine overhaul (567BC) and a few cosmetic repairs the carbody will be sandblasted, painted and placed in freight service here in Portland (Or). Seeing the SP 1195 looking so sharp may help move the project forward to completion from its current "backburner" position behind other projects. Fortunately the train number boards, gyralights and original horn were resurected along with one of the PE style "Hollywood" whistles. It is documented as the first EsPee switcher to be equipped with train radio (remains of brackets welded to the deck ahead of the cab confirm that) and is believed to be the only remaining Ex-Espee SW-8 with fully operational dynamic brakes. As a bonus the 1127 will be converted to 26 air with the 6BL independent brake valve utilized and the 26 automatic brake valve mounted below the original automatic brake valve, operated by a shaft with u-joints and the quadrant re-machined to match 26 positions. The original barrel control stand will be retained with an AAR roller switch controller installed inside interlocked with the dynamic brake drum. Quite a project! Author: RailRat I recall seeing Hot Water's earlier comments about posting in the wrong discussion forum, Maybe someday Todd can make room on this site for another category simply called "Preservation/Restoration" ???.
I thought there used to be a category like that, but could be imagining things. Jim Baker Riverside, CA |
